Growing up in Outback and Regional Queensland, Alex gained a deep appreciation for how creative culture shapes community spirit. Now based in Toowoomba, she brings over a decade of experience in the creative industries, including founding and operating artist-run spaces(Attic Art Space, made. Creative Space, Tinker), events & festival programming (Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, LIT Festival: Stories in Light, Thrive on Arts, Hampton Festival), community engagement, mentoring, advocacy, education and gallery management (Crows Nest Regional Art Gallery).
Alex’s love for both the arts and business led her to establish Tinker, a creative studio offering art workshops and programming through in-house sessions, pop-up partnerships, and online content.
Alex’s art delves into the intricate personal experiences that define our identities, exploring how these experiences transform her creative journey. Her work is a process of self-exploration within the societal context, revealing the layered complexity of personal identity through automatic imagery and carefully chosen animal motifs.
As someone with a chronic health condition, Alex offers a unique perspective highlighting the beauty and resilience present in everyday life. She uses acrylics, watercolour, gouache, and collage to bring these themes to life, inviting her audience to discover the inherent beauty in all aspects of life, even during challenging times.
For Alex, public art is about creating a meaningful connection with the location, using elements like colour, shape, and design to reflect the essence of a place. She is passionate about participatory art projects that invite the audience to move beyond passive observation and become active creators themselves. Her public installations translate her artistic style into works that are not just seen but experienced, fostering a relationship between the art, the space, and the people who interact with it.
