Statement Birds is an ongoing series of abstract self-portraits incorporating representational elements and layered automatic pattern-making. These works enable Alex to retreat from the noise and overstimulation of daily life, delving into the realm of automatic drawing as a means to deconstruct deeper thoughts, events, and moments. The bird, a recurring motif in this series, holds profound symbolic significance for the artist, intentionally left undisclosed to encourage viewers to form their own personal connections with each piece.
Experiential Landscapes
created from memories and colour palettes
Statement Landscapes explores the concepts of self, memory, and connection through the lens of environment. Each piece is created in response to a specific environment, whether built or natural. When we immerse ourselves in a space, we absorb more than just the visual elements; we hear sounds, smell scents, and feel the atmosphere around us, carrying these memories with us. In an era where photography allows us to capture every moment instantaneously, we often lose the opportunity to deeply engage with our surroundings. Through these works, Alex endeavors to recreate the emotional experience of a place by distilling its imagery into a color palette, producing pieces based on the memory of the experience.
ORBS series
automatic paintings & drawings
statement
Orbs is an ongoing series that explores the role of automation in our lives. Living with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome, a form of dysautonomia, Alex employs her natural inclination to create amoebic, orb-like structures, resulting in a diverse series of abstract self-portraits. Automatic drawing, a process where the artist suppresses conscious control to let the unconscious mind guide the creation, is central to this work. Through the use of color, structures, layers, and linework, Alex uses these pieces as a means of discovering how automation, along with personal experiences, preferences, and bodily movements, shapes our daily lives.

creating happy spaces
Public art, both static and immersive, embodies my passion for celebrating happiness and fostering connection through audience engagement. I aim to explore the impact of creative spaces on individuals and communities, and how transforming these spaces through art influences the way we navigate them. Art is a powerful tool for uniting people from all demographics, encouraging creation, exploration, and collaboration. Wall paintings, street art, interactive pieces for commercial, private or community projects. Would you love me to paint a bit of happiness on your commercial building? Are you looking for an interactive community project for a festival or event? This is my jam. I love using art as a way to bring together community spaces.
