Yay a real art people worker person cheque....all to go onto my car service BUT still that is paid for with bona-fide art credits. I have been painting a lot actually don't know why just that I have and you know what...I like it. I will upload some imagery soonish, probably sooner than the newspaper article I keep meaning to scan in and share. BUT there are a lot of them and the thought is boring let alone the actual doing of it. Right now though it is cold and I am snuggling my kitties... Look at her don't you just wanna snuggle snuggle snuggle?? The other day I also performed a semi crap-tastic photoshoot, thank geezus for the camera lend Nerida or it would never have happened. Artwise Elysha's work was featured in the MARS exhibition Future: An exploration of tmrw. IT was a fantastic NIGHT absolutely brilliant! Lots of fun, art, culture, records, dancing, ball in cup game, jokes, and pals. Also recently The Winter Fashion Markets was on @ the old TBar which was yet another successful display of the underground creative culture beginning to publicly bloom within the inland city. Somehow I ended up 'modelling' wasn't really, it was me laughing and speaking with the announcer as I strolled down a cleared area...it was funtastic though and would do it again I spose. We had a stall set up there for made. which was great we had a whole little section of friends with their stalls setup. MARS, Smells Like Zines, Old Fangled Beauties and us. Brilliant day. Looking forward to the next one.
Also happening in the last 14 days, CREATIVE TANKS. which is a fun and huge project I am looking forward to. Elysha and I have been working with the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers to produce a live art walk through the centre of town. In shop windows artists will set up studio and be gawked at by the foot traffic of thousands as they enjoy the carnival atmosphere. I hope to be one of these artists indeed. Making Sock Monkeys I will be. Ok I am logging off for now. But in the famous last words of a very big man with a very square haircut...I'll be back.

May Again: Installation, Today infact at Redland Art Gallery Capalaba ' Sock Monkeys and Their Monkey Ways' more piccies below. made. Creative SpaceOn-Site exhibition Curated by Elysha GouldThe concept for this project lies in the desire to explore the contexts of a gallery space and what is classified as an art material. The exhibition redefines 'landscape' as represented in art through physically placing objects of industrial landscape into the gallery space. The raw and natural quality of the materials used creates a contrast against the clean white walls of the gallery. All artists have worked with tactile mediums as part of their practice, but using set raw materials as a basis for this work presented an added challenge and hence an opportunity for artistic growth. With no limitations to working methods or presentation, each artist was able to create works using their own interpretation of the provided materials. Sand, gravel, rocks, cement and steel reinforcement are readily utilised for construction, but mainly in an industrial context. By challenging these six artists to construct works using materials not normally associated with fine art, both the artists and viewers can open up the possibilities to the vast materials on offer outside of an art shop. By Elysha Gould Artist Statement: Alex Isaacson As a self-portraiture artist my practice resonates through the documentation of myself through my alter-ego the Sock Monkey. I utilize the inherent parody and humour Sock Monkey's possess to create a comical look at my own struggles with anxiety that I battle with on a daily basis. These particular works explore my recent feelings of the overwhelmed, the struggle with becoming buried and then the inevitable success of winning when I find myself at the end of the road. Each monkey represents the different stages of stress the battle to cope, the feeling of taking one step in front of another to happiness and pride I feel with in myself once I have accomplished. Cadavre Exquis curated by Alex IsaacsonBased on the Surrealist Game local artists played the game of blind autonomous drawing. 'Sock Monkeys and Their Monkey Ways' @ Redland Art GalleryTuesday seen an early morning an enjoyable drive and a very pleasant hanging experience.
Myself and the Barnyard is currently on display at Gympie Regional Gallery and will continue to do so until the 19th February. The exhibition is a visual documentation of my 2010, and lets just say it wasn't what I originally expected. But thats the way the cookie crumbles. Wait that doesn't seem to be the right sentiment, see I actually like the crazy detour my art took over 2010, I love the show, it is just very different from the usual. Anyway enough of my inner monologue, I could ramble for a long long time about myself, I am after all a little self-obsessed: look at my art. Below are a few sneak peak pictures from the exhibition..enjoy. If you want to experience the exhibition in the flesh make sure the visit the Gympie Gallery between now and the 19th Feb 2011. Or come join me at the Official Opening on the 15th January 2-4pm. Wanting some Sock Monkeys??? Find them here http://www.etsy.com/shop/alexisaacson this weekend only, that is right, until Monday 20th December 2010, Sock Monkeys are HALF PRICE. I'm insane I know but it tis' the season to be basically giving away stuff right??? Enjoy the sales and spread the word as it literally won't last forever.
Well this is a short and not so sweet post about what just happened in my life. Thats right folks this block is happening in real time.
My lovely mother after viewing my page from a far believes the above banner picture to be of a seal.....what does that say about me I wonder ever so public like via my blog. Soon, after blog is posted I shall tell her that it is not in fact a seal BUT the wonderful daughter she brought into this world, and that my upset feelings are now posted for the world to feel alongside me. ![]() So what happens when I find a piece of scrap timber, some canvas and two paint colours. Self-portraits, what did you think? I am really happy with these, I feel like I am really exploring my gritty lifestyle I am living at the moment. And that doesn't mean I am living in a dirty bog pit. No it doesn't. I am referring to the uncertainty of my life right now. Ok so if you are not interested with all that goes on in my life skip the below rant and just scroll down for a few more pictures.... ...and so the rant begins..... the plan was simple I mean it didn't get any simpler. Sell House----->Travel the world. That was it. BUT plan came crashing down for the meantime since house did not sell. So life is up-side-down and back-to-front I'd even say left-and-right. What to do? What to do? Its stressful not knowing where you will be in a year..or even in a month...so when I say gritty I mean my life is unreliable, messed up, and ok yeah a little dirty as all this uncertainty is doing wonders for my art and I have paint everywhere. But alas Aaron and I have a few new/altered/interim plans which I cannot list here just yet but don't worry if anything, great art is being made...... ....rant over, for now. Below I have attached some more new work pictures. Let you eyes feast on even more pictures of my face. Wow I thought this was crazy what are the odds of having two places both named Metro showing my works at once??? I thought slim to none, I guess there might be someone out there who thinks otherwise.
Well Metro 1 In the wonderful town of Toowoomba Qld Metro Cafe and Events on Railway street will still be showing my works along with some very talented other local talent (insert cute and paste here) Zach LawryAlice Constance Weinthal Alex Isaacson (who's image graces the promo) Daniel Qualichefski Christian Low Rhi Lesch Denise Nys Shannon Mark Jared Fountain Alison Mooney Ta-da! So the actual one night only event was on the 2nd December so this is very much a post-blog. But the works are up till Mid January...I think at least early January 2011. The night was great with Circus performances and a packout out crowd. The Metro 2. Can't report much on this actually. It was for the Chapman and Bailey Art Prize didn't get anything, made a very successful work which is now display/leaning on kitchen bench awaiting hook and wall. Ill put up some pictures here though.
